After giving birth to her daughter Olympia in 2017, Williams returned to the tennis circuit the following year. Although she failed to win a Grand Slam title since then, the younger Williams sister reached the finals four times. Recently, she talked about how difficult it was to play tennis after giving birth to Olympia.
Serena Williams opens up about playing tennis as a mother.
During a conversation with Bradley Cooper, the former world number one revealed her difficulties in playing tennis after becoming a mother.
What did Williams say?
She said, “As a super hands-on mom, I can’t tell you how hard it was. I lost so many matches after I had Olympia because it was so hard to be on the court. I feel like I’ve given so much of my life to tennis, my entire life, that it’s time to do something different for me and also work on other things.”
Further, she talked about why she called an end to her illustrious career.
Williams added, “I just needed to stop. I always said I wanted to stop when I’m playing really good tennis and winning and beating good players. For me, it’s really about things I want to do spiritually and spending time with my daughter and family.”
Will Serena come back from retirement?
While we have seen the likes of NFL QB Tom Brady come back after announcing their retirement, there remains a possibility that she might return to tennis. Recently, Serena Williams hinted about the same, as she revealed that she will pick up a racket again if she feels so.
