Despite Staggering 88 World Cup Wins, Skiing Prodigy Mikaela Shiffrin Faces an Upset at Women’s World Cup Giant Slalom

After achieving the record for the most World Cup wins, skiing champion Mikaela Shiffrin set her sights on yet another feat as the new season began. However, in her pursuit, the legend faced a setback during her first race of the season.

Mikaela Shiffrin aims for sixth

Last season, Shiffrin secured her fifth World Cup title while breaking Ingemar Stenmark's record to claim the most World Cup wins in Alpine history. Now, she aims to match Annemarie Moser-Pröll's record of six World Cup titles.

An Unexpected result

Focused on her goal, Mikaela was determined to have a fruitful start to the season. However, three-time Olympic medalists and Swiss skiers Lara Gut-Behrami, Federica Brignone, and Petra Vlhova outperformed her. Shiffrin finished in the sixth place, trailing Lara by 1.40 seconds.

Mikaela’s positive outlook

Mikaela is not pleased with the result, but she is not disheartened either. She acknowledges that she improved upon her last year's performance and admits that she didn't execute her best moves in the giant slalom, saying, "There are some positives from the day and some things to improve, for sure."
