“Bring the Numbers Down Farther”: After Multiple Equine Fatalities This Year, Emerging Tech Company Steps in for the Future of Horse Racing

This year's Derby provided a thrilling narrative, with unexpected outcomes and an underdog rising to victory. However, the joy was swiftly overshadowed by the devastating reality. Despite reassurances of a secure track, Churchill Downs saw 12 horses perish, sparking fierce debates about the safety of defenceless animals. Nevertheless, it now seems that a new technology may come to rescue.

Undersurveillance - the cause equine deaths

StrideSafe, a tech company, has created performance-prediction technology for racehorses. They said that 7 of the 12 dead horses showed abnormal readings.

Importance of technology for Equestrian welfare

“Had the sensors been on the horses in prior races, they could’ve pointed to an issue the horse was having weeks or even months earlier,” said Dr. David Lambert, CEO of StrideSafe.

Horse Racing galloping into 'a new era'

Therefore, it's safe to say that racing is entering "a new era" where technology will improve safety. "We can’t eliminate all fatalities, but we can and will bring the numbers down farther," added Lambert
