Recently on the sets of The Dale Jr. Download podcast, Dale Earnhardt Jr interviewed former NASCAR crew chief, Tony Furr. It turned out that Furr had been associated with Dale Earnhardt Sr back in the day. So it was obvious that he had plenty of interesting stories about the late NASCAR legend.
“Dale jumps out the car and they start running for him to kill him. And they’re running over to my truck to go and get me too. Robert Gee is parked outside and he’s standing there. He pulls out a little pistol and he’s put it to the side right there and says, ‘Don’t come over here boys’”.
“Here comes Dale running, my car is parked towards the fence, 6–8 foot fence, got like a slope with barbed wire. Dale runs towards my truck, jumps up on the hood with one foot. The next foot’s on the barbed wire and the next foot’s on the ground. He and Theresa are in my ’73 Torino and they’re gone.”
Dale Jr actually found the story hilarious and couldn’t stop laughing. Meanwhile, Davis cracked a few jokes about the situation, saying, “The original American Ninja Warrior, right there. Spider-man doesn’t do that.”
According to Furr, Dale Earnhardt punted Dickie Anderson out of the race. Not long afterwards, the heavens opened and the race was eventually called off. Dale Earnhardt was declared the second-place finisher, and that ticked off several fans.
