“Alpha Male”: 160 Days After Tommy John Surgery, Bryce Harper Shocks the World While Wearing a Cast on MLB Return

Last year in November, the Philadelphia Phillies’ hitter Bryce Harper went through the Tommy John surgery. The Phillies thought he would return before the All-Star break. However, Harper shocked everyone and returned in May. However, fans are perplexed to see Harper wearing a cast on his right arm.

Harper’s Tommy John surgery

Tommy John surgery is an ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstruction surgery and Harper had to go through it after playing with a partial UCL tear pretty much all the last season. Then, in November Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed his surgery in Los Angeles.

Harper’s return

Harper was targeting the Dodgers series for his return. Although Dr. ElAttrache cleared him, he had to wear a brace on his right arm. As per medical experts, a brace is recommended for about a month’s time, after which a longer rehab period follows. He took to Instagram and posted before his return, “Aye Pham. You ready?”

Fans show concern about Harper

Many fans praised Harper for defying the odds and making his return to the MLB. One fan wrote, “Alpha male.” Another fan tweeted, “I love his passion for the game.” Meanwhile, one user said, “Nah this is insane, Bryce we need you, take another month off please.” One more fan tweeted, “It’s a cool story but have a feeling this isn’t going to be good in the long run.
