Daniel Ricciardo loves to make a bet with his bosses. Last year, the Honey Badger accepted a wager with his former team boss, Cyril Abiteboul. And this year Riccardo made a bet with McLaren CEO, Zak Brown, which is going to fulfill at the US GP.
Daniel and Zak have agreed that if he gets a podium for McLaren, Ricciardo will get a go in Dale Earnhardt’s 1984 Wrangler Chevrolet Monte Carlo. It’s no secret he’s a huge Dale Earnhardt fan and he even races with the famous number 3 as a tribute to the NASCAR legend.
Daniel Ricciardo not only managed to secure a podium for McLaren at the Italian Grand Prix but also giving the Woking-based team their first win since the 2012 Brazillian Grand Prix.
After listening to his boss’s side of the bet, Riccardo also wanted to promise something in return. When Zak suggested the idea of shoey, the Aussie immediately agreed. And at the Italian GP, Zak Brown shares the shoey with Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris.
Ahead of the United States Grand Prix, McLaren have confirmed Daniel Ricciardo will finally drive one of Dale Earnhardt’s NASCAR cup cars at the Circuit of The Americas. Ricciardo will get to run during the build-up to the Austin weekend.
Last year at Renault, Riccardo made a bet with his team boss, Cyril Abiteboul. The bet said that if the Honey Badger put Renault on the podium, Cyril would get a tattoo of Ricciardo’s choice. Sadly, Cyril has not yet followed up on his promise.
