Well, it’s a curious case of an “ask me anything” session going wrong with Pedro Martinez Jr., the son of the MLB legend Pedro Martinez. While Martinez Jr. started his professional baseball journey in 2017 with the Tigers, it didn’t go as expected. And as per the latest update, he is far away from the MLB limelight. After dwelling in the minors between 2016 and 2022, Martinez Jr. just fell short of making an MLB debut. But why can’t he play when his dad could still throw over 90 MPH?
A few fans asked the same!
And Martinez Jr. doesn’t seem to like the questions. In contrast to his pitching legend dad, Martinez Jr. started his journey from the batter’s box. And till his release from the minors in 2022, he ended up with 4 HRs and 48 RBIs, hitting .206. So yes, nothing comparable to his dad, and that sparked the fans’ curiosity over his stint.

However, the man now called out a few fans for comparing him to his legendary dad: “Why don’t you pitch. Your dad still throws 90. Ever hit off your dad? Be quiet, that guy is in his 50s. He could barely scratch his back. I don’t throw 80. And now, I am not going to the league, boys. Hate to break it to you.”

Pedro Martinez, the Hall of Famer, had an impressive 219-100 record, a 2.93 ERA, and 3,154 strikeouts. And all this happened in a career span of 18 years! In contrast, his son, although he started as a slugger in the minor affiliates of the Tigers, things didn’t move as expected. And as per the latest update, Martinez Jr. is no longer associated with the league; rather, he is now in entrepreneurship.
Well, Martinez Jr. is not shying away from the fact. He sounds spirited about confirming that he is not coming back to the league in any way. When your dad is a 3x Cy Young winner, there’s always a big shadow to step out of. And plenty of questions that come with it. But Martinez Jr. handled it all with the same calm confidence his father showed on the mound.
Martinez got a few more similar examples
Just when we remember the brilliance of Pedro Martinez, another name that pops up is that of David Ortiz! Another Red Sox legend, and he also got his son on the same path.

David Ortiz Jr., 17, the son of David Ortiz, is also a left-handed-hitting first baseman. Currently, he is signed with the Texas Rangers and playing in the Dominican Summer League. So, he is still on the path to make a debut in MLB in the future.
And then there’s Mike Yastrzemski, grandson of the Red Sox legend, Carl Yastrzemski. Mike is one of the notable examples of shining in the MLB scene who got his roots back in the Red Sox organization. Same as the Pedro Martinez Jr. This year, Mike is hitting .226 with 11 HRs and 34 RBIs for the Royals, and has established himself as a solid MLB player.
