Michaela Edenfield’s pro journey is just getting started, and how! But it’s not just about her bat. The former Florida State star was one of the 12 college players recently selected by the AUSL’s Volts in the second round of the draft. And now, she has opened up about the pressures she put on herself and offered advice for the next generation of young softball players.

Now, Edenfield is not just another rookie. She made headlines at Florida State, and that legacy will live in Tallahassee for years to come. She had 52 home runs, which ranks third all-time in the program’s history, and her 197 career RBI put her in the top five. Plus, add in three All-ACC selections and her .381 batting average in 2024, it’s easy to see why Volts got her.

However, even with all that success, Edenfield admitted that the transition to the pros has not been easy for her. Even though her mom and her elder sister were also in the same sport, the transition was not simple.

“The first half of the AUSL season, Season 1, was extremely hard on me. You guys are going from high school to college; it’s not going to be an easy route, right? But who can you be vulnerable to, and how can you learn to be more vulnerable around all?” That vulnerability showed when she shared this message with the young players at the Nike Diamond RBI Softball World Series.

She also asked them to soak in the little moments. The cheers and the bonds, because according to her, those are the memories they would want to come back to the most. Now, Edenfield, though, is thrilled to be living out the dream she once had as a kid back in Sneads, Florida. “You got to think, I’m just a little girl in the backyard of Tallahassee from Sneads, Florida, given the opportunity to play professional softball, and when I hear it just like that, I just get overwhelmed with just the gratitude and gratefulness I have for this opportunity for one to be able to play pro softball, but again, that’s all within the same time, giving myself grace for the learning curve for what it’s like to be a professional athlete.”

Her get-ready-with-me videos bring in thousands of views, and they are more than just makeup tutorials.

They are a peek into how one of the biggest names in the softball league is. On how she now gets locked in and how she feels confident in herself. The candy-colored shadows, the liquid glitter, and the rhinestones are artistry for sure. But for Edenfield, it’s more—it’s mental prep. She had mentioned to ESPN, “It takes away from the pressure of the anxiety building up… Every high-level athlete has their way of finding that.” And she has earned the right to her routine with all that she has achieved so far.

Now this love for creativity runs in her blood. Her grandfather, for example, was a photographer; her grandmother ran a quilt shop. And as a kid in Sneads, Edenfield herself learned to sew, paint, and even play the piano. But eventually, softball became her escape. It started as a sibling rivalry, but now it is her lifelong calling. And it has not always been easy for Edenfield. She had used makeup as a shield from the pressures of fitting in. But now for her, it’s something else entirely.

She said, “It took me a while to translate ‘different’ into ‘unique.’ Owning the word ‘unique’ has changed my mindset, both on the field and in my daily, personal life.” So for her, the game day is about more than power; it’s about confidence and creativity.
