Even after an on-field brawl with the Blue Jays catcher Tyler Heineman, the Pirates outfielder Tommy Pham is not done with his beef against Toronto just yet. What seemed like a quickly resolved bench-clearing brawl between the Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night is now turning into an ugly fight on a different battlefield. It all began with a routine seventh-inning walk. The Pirates were up against the Jays on August 18th in the first game, when feelings unexpectedly spilled over.
Instead of jogging to first base, Pham punctuated his walk with a dramatic bat flip, quickly sparking a bench-clearing tension. Heineman stood stunned and called the move “unprovoked and super weird.” And while it did not take long to end the brawl, the Pirates took the fight to social media, and not only did he rip Heineman, but he was also involved in an online brawl with MLB legend Gary Sheffield’s son, Gary Sheffield Jr.
First, Pham took to X to fire back at Heineman’s version of the situation, calling him out for “bitching about a ball not being called a strike” and insisting that his actions were disrespectful. To him, the bat flip was not just a random event—it was a statement. However, this did not sit well with Sheffield Jr., who also hosts the Yankees Unloaded podcast. “There is no way this is a real tweet Can’t complain about the zone out of respect for Tommy Pham? Yeah, folks complained about the zone pitching to Barry Bonds — what makes you special? Get out your emotions and into your common sense,” Sheffield Jr. tweeted.

Irked by the response, Pham lashed out at the MLB legend’s son, calling his comment “stupid.” Pham responded, “I respect your dad not you even text and talk to OG next time look at the pre text of the event before you comment stupidly now let me send this to OG so he can talk to you.” While the duo kept taking digs at each other on X, Pham had called out another Blue Jays legend during his rant.

Did Tommy Pham accuse the Blue Jays slugger of PED usage?
Tommy Pham was on a mission after the Pirates defeated the Jays in the first game on Monday. After his on-field brawl with Tyler Heineman and an online fight with Gary Sheffield Jr., he also accused the Blue Jays Slugger Addison Barger of taking PEDs, in a since-deleted tweet.
After Pham’s take on Heineman, apart from Sheffield Jr., the Blue Jays fans were the most hurt. Responding to Pham’s comment, when an X user with Addison Barger’s profile picture responded with an insult, the Pirates slugger did not hold back and said, “your profile pic is of someone who takes steroids, loser,” per the Toronto Star.

Notably, Barger was suspended for a drug policy violation in 2019 while in the minor league system for the Blue Jays. Though on Tuesday, Barger confirmed to Mitch Bannon of The Athletic that he was suspended for a stimulant, not a steroid, for 50 games in 2019.

With the Jays taking the next game home, both teams will play the decider on Wednesday. Do you think Barger’s Jays will get the better of the Pirates and Pham?
